I really like the middle dates and these sort of oddities, so I am enjoying this thread. Here is a recent acquisition I made for an 1839 N5 with a cracked planchet, hope you enjoy!

Very Nice 1839 N5 Copper Frog ! That is a beautiful large cent, and the planchet crack just adds to it's character.
I too enjoy looking at and owning early copper coins made here in America. They appear to me to be more 'Real' and that they were used in everyday commerce by all Americans instead of looking at Slabbed Common MS-65 Morgan Silver Dollars which to me look 'Sterile'...and of course unused. Mistakes were made when the Dies were cut and each Die was a little different which gives the appearance of being hand made and more human. I know I can and shall spend my life studying and collecting these pieces of round copper metal...and will never run out of examples to add to my collection regardless of the series or denomination!!!
