Early Date Grading Challenge - grade posted
OK, here's a primer for all those armchair grading experts out there...... and a chance to hone your skills if you plan on attending Steve and Doug's seminar at EAC 2012.
The coin posted below is a late date 1798 S-153. Chime in and give me you sharpness and net grade, including condition (Average, etc.). I come back at you with the "experts" opinions in week. You can click on the photos to enlarge, I think.
Let's see what you you can do !!

We have some real experts here. The coin is the Dan Holmes specimen lot 278 (nice comparison there Mr.Jazzysjets !! ). My grade on the coin is a 30 net 20 A-. Bob Grellman Graded the coin a 30 net 25 (as can be seen in the Holmes description). Bill Noyes has it listed in the Condition Census and graded 25 net 15 A-. Del Bland has it listed in his Condition Census as a 25. So there you go ! Thanks for your participation. Thanks for your answers. The next will be a bit more interesting.

Sharpness VF25; net 15 or 20 for obverse spots and obverse and reverse green "stuff". Condition -- Average minus. I do think the coin has a nice look and will be interested in what others think.
I have a feeling there's more detail in the leaves than shows in the photo. I'll say VF30, net 20 for the crunchy spots. Avg-. Way better than mine!
and an A++ for cud quality
I am still pretty new at this EAC grading. I feel the reverse has better details than the obverse but I will give it a VF30 details Net 15 for obverse spots, green stuff (both sides), and some larger hits on the obverse. Average. Might also Net it at 20 but then call it aveage minus.
Nicer than my S-179
VF25/F15 Avg for me. I think eye appeal helps.
I'd probably call it 30 net 20 - obv avg-, rev avg or better. I agree - the cud looks to be near choice.
I feel good that I reviewed your photos and mentally chose my grade guess before I looked at all of your responses. VF30, Net 20 average minus. Nice large cent. I'd buy it.
