1838 N-12 or N-15 Question
These coins are listed to have "an extra center dot to the SW". I have looked at a number of these images online and have found no two of the images where the extra center dot is in the same place. Some show it as being inside the curl in front of the ear - and in various places inside the curl. Some show it being outside and below the curl - either closer to or furthur away from the ear. I would have thought that all legitimate examples would have the extra dot in the same place - am I correct on that? If I am looking at the images correctly in the Grellman book, the extra dot should be just outside and below the curl, almost touching it - do my eyes betray me? I am wondering if anyone who has one of these varieties, would you be willing to post the image showing the extra center dot?
Thanks for any help.
Supposedly the dots do not appear on every coin of those two varieties. If you check out the full size images of the 38's from the Dan Holmes auction in the Goldberg Auctions archives, the extra center dots are easily visible on both varieties.
Thanks, wetrock - I did find them - I did not see them in my earlier search - I think that was because they were not specificially identified with their N #, but had to be inferred from the text.
