Hello all. My name is Scott McCain. I live in beautiful (and chilly) Northern Wisconsin. I grew up in Palo Alto, CA and moved here after graduating High School in 1976. My father was originally from Wisconsin and in 1972 he moved back to start a Winery. I started making the wine in 1979. I live in a big Cranberry growing area - so we make Cranberry and other fruit wine.
I attended a few coin club gatherings as a young boy with my mother and collected Lincoln Cents as I found them. I bid on and won my first old copper in July 1979. A VG/Fine 1803 C-1 half cent for $25. I had two wonderful daughters shortly after that and my collecting screached to a halt.
I picked up the hobby again in the last few years. Mostly Morgans. But my favorite coin has always been that half cent. Morgans all look very much alike, but the old coppers have character. I've never touched an old copper that I didn't own - so I'm looking forward to attending a convention (cotton gloves?). Sadly I'm unable to attend this year. Next Year! I've enjoyed reading about the past EAC conventions at largecents.net.
I don't specialize in any area but I seem to favor early Large Cents. I also collect numismatic books and old and recent coin auction catalogs. There is a lot to learn and I am enjoying the journey and happy to have found this little corner of the internet.
