A Johnstown, PA Memeber
Hello everyone! My name is Matt Yohe and I am your Region 8 Chairman. Like many, I started filling Whitman Lincoln Cent albums as a young 'un. My grandfather was instrumental in cultivating my interest. By and by I graduated to early 20th century classics, Buffalo nickels, Standing Liberty quarters and the like. I dabbled briefly with $5 Liberty gold but that got too expensive fast.
Throughout my collecting, I never enjoyed uncirculated coins. They just didn't have the character and history of a well circulated coin. Couple that with my love for Colonial American history and it was inevitable that I migrate toward early copper.
Nowadays I specialize in New Jersey coppers and Draped Bust half and large cents. Their designs and the numerous naked eye varieties should hold my interest for years to come. However, that doesn't mean I would pass up a Spanish cob or a Pine Tree if it came my way for the right price!
I just replied to the other thread where you shared the image of your 24-P. I specialize in Jersies too. I used to know most of the collectors that were Jersey collectors, but new ones are starting every day and I can't keep up. Johnstown... wasn't there a big flood there some years ago? Hope to see you in Buffalo.
Three floods, the first in 1889. That was the big one. The last was in 1977. Johnstown proper is in the valley between two ridges in the Laurel Highlands. I live on one of the ridges! Not taking any chances.
I'll definitely be in Buffalo in May. Hope to run in to you there!
Hi everyone. I'm quickwing-Bill Hamilton
I have never opened a facebook, twitter, or any other "social" account, and have wondered about those that do. Who would tell the world about themselves? Who would care?
Anyway, here goes something new for me. I am in my mid-50's and live in the Memphis TN area. I have been collecting coins since childhood but recently got back in several years ago on a fluke situation. Like many newbies I was all over the board with type coins, but have migrated to EAC and love it.
I like all early, middle, and late dates. Because my purse is small I have began to settle in on high quality late dates. I am building an interesting set. All of the late date N-13’s. I currently need a 48 and a 54. If anyone out there has a high CC of these two or know where I can get one please let me know. I am also moving along with my Classic Head LC by Sheldon #.
I am comfortable saying all this because this board is made up of a great group that just wants to help each other and share their finds and knowledge. I would never post this on any other venue. Thanks for the opportunity Matt.
Bill I live in S E MO
Are there any coin clubs in menphis area
Do you belong to any?
I go to 4 St louis club meetings and menphis area is as close + my daughter lives Oatkland .
Well I notice now I should have started a new thread instead of adding my info on Matt's thread. If that's the worst thing I did that day?
I do not belong to the Memphis Coin Club but I set up a table at their spring show.
Quickwing, were the chap at the table next to me ??
