My name is Scott and I am a new member.
I have just repatriated to the US a few months back after living in Europe for 20+ years. Great being back.
One of the things I looked forward to in returning (besides the fact that I could now watch NFL games at a decent hour) was getting back into my old hobby of coin collecting.
My main area's of focus are:
-Large Cents 1816-1857 (VF-XF)
-Flying Eagle and Indian Cents (VF-XF)
-Lincoln Cents (MS-64+ red only).
-Mercury Dimes (MS62+)
-Morgan Dollars (MS62+) and interest in VAM's
I do pick up lower grade coins/denominations for the starter sets I am making for my two boys, aged 3 and 5. Hoping to get my older boy into the hobby in the near future, but I have strong competition from Thomas the Train and Lightning McQueen.
I particularly enjoy the early coppers, especially the history attached to them. My main focus at the moment is completing the 1816-1857 main varieties date set. I am trying to do this at a level of XF, but i do have some down to the VF grade which I do look to upgrade. I am reading up on/learning everything I can about Large Cents. I am now in the process of searching out and acquiring the key books to help further my knowledge. Once I get a bit more "schooled" I will decide how and where to branch out for the collecting of the different varieties by date. Haven't yet quite figured out a strategy for that.
I started attending the monthly Parsipany Coin Show in NJ will find me lurking at the tables that have Large Cents. I have met a few EAC members there, and one of the dealers there who is a member recommended that I join, so here I am.
Glad to be part of the EAC family.
