Hi. I am Roxanne Himmelstein, the coppercuckoo. If it is early copper, it is for me. Ok, I collect Early and middle date half cents and large cents. I used to have a page on carefully cleaning early coppers. It is on Geocities under my maiden name: Roxanne Goldberg.
My favorites are the 1794 large cents, followed by early dates, and then middle dates. All of the crazy names for some of the varieties make them even more interesting. I even have some junk half cents around so I can feel like I can give out change in half cents! Ok, not much change. It still feels good to hold those coppers in my hands. I don't know why I adore early copper so much. Maybe, I like the variations in brown color. Maybe, they resemble chocolate. Maybe, it is because many of them were made before steam power became widely used.
Nobody else in my family collects coins. They can't understand the obsession! My husband just listens to me go on about one coin or another. I guess he is glad that I am happy. How could anyone besides another collector understand the way we feel about coppers? I am EAC member #4329 and have been a member since about 1995. I just can't get enough of 1794 anything!
Thanks for reading!
