A Counterstamped Colonial Curiosity .....

While I've been able to attribute a good many counterstamped coppers over the years, this one has long puzzled me. Just who was M.H. DOE ? This small-lettered counterstamp bears a toothed edge. It appears to be an early, somewhat crude mark in comparison to many that appeared in the 1820-30's. Thus, I'm inclined to suspect that it predates that era. The mark's size, likely too small for a blacksmith to have used, causes me to suspect that the issuer was a craftsman; perhaps, a toolmaker, silversmith, tinsmith ...

Any thoughts or suggestions that would assist in attributing this counterstamp would be much appreciated!

Also, can anyone provde a Maris number for the Jersey cent?

Can't give you any helpn the counterstamp but the Maris attribution is a 46-e. By any chance is it for sale?
