What would these lines be called?
This coin has lots of somewhat parallel lines in the field on the Obverse – especially around stars 1 through 5. It also has similar lines on a fair portion of the field on the reverse. I have read about polishing lines, flow lines, etc. but I am not quite sure how to tell the difference between all the different types of lines. What would these lines be called? I am thinking that these lines do not represent damage to the coin because they do not extend over the features. To me, that would mean they represent damage to the die – am I correct on that?
Also, I am thinking that this is an N-35, especially because there is somewhat visible a long, heavy point to the left from the hair just right of the coronet. This is vaguely visible even on the photo. Also visible is the line through the berry to the right of CENT. This line can best be seen by increasing the size of the image on your computer. (Apologies for the lower condition of the coin).
However, the N-35 description does not mention what appears to be a crack from the lower right serif of E to the upper left serif of N in CENT…so I am not certain what to do about that?
