I have been trying to figure this one out. Is this one a large lettered edge or a small lettered edge? Any help would be appreciated.

Breen only lists a small letters edge for C3 and that looks to fit the bill. Letters are spaced evenly rather than scrunched together. Also they appear deeply impressed whereas the large letters edge appears shallow. Another diagnostic is the O in DOLLAR. It is larger than the D on large edge letters varieties and of the same size as the D in small edge letters varieties.

There is a C3a and C3b large and small letters in Mr. Robinson's (CQR). I will look at the coin again to see the O in dollar. Thank you for your reply.

This one looks like the small letters; the large letters subvariety is supposed to be high R7, so it is much more likely to be the small letters. The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at how closely spaced the letters are. The small letters are more widely spaced.
If you have a 1794 C7, 8 or 9, hold them together with one of the words lined up. If they match it is a 3b, as those varieties probably do not exist with large letters
