View Full Version : My First Classic Head

Received my first Classic Head Half Cent. An 1835 C-2, Manley Die State VI? The reverse has two of the three die cracks mentioned by Mr. Cohen in his Little Sisters book. The die crack over the "E" in America on the reverse is not there yet. Appears to be an uncirculated example with plenty of red still present. Check out the third picture. What is going on with "HALF CENT"? What I am seeing isn't mentioned in Little Sisters. Is this common?
Would appreciate any comments.

looks like lots of re-punched letters - not at all uncommon and thats a
nice little clash mark to the right of the word "cent"

When I see doubling in one direction I think of recutting. When it is all around a letter I think it is from grinding down the die. Tops of the letter wells are ground wider. See this on lots of modern quarters, esp. late 1980's, and nickels.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
